What will happen when you arrive at Jolimont Endoscopy?

You will be greeted at the reception and one of our receptionists will
- Confirm your booking and admit you to the hospital
- Enter your details into the Patient Management System (computer)
- A short time later you will be escorted to the pre-procedure area.
- An identification label which has your name and personal details will be affixed to your clothing on your chest
- You will be informed of the name of the anaesthetist, the endoscopist and the nurse who will be caring for you.
At this time, or shortly after the nurse who will be caring for you will arrive and introduce her/him self to you and verify your admission details – patient identity, procedure and consent.
The procedure will be explained to you by the nurse and he/she will be able to answer any queries you may have at this point.
You will not be able to drive for the entire day after having this procedure so you will already have been asked to identify how you will be getting home. The nurse will verify the details of this person or mode of transport at this point.
You will be directed to the change room to change you clothing for a patient gown and dressing gown if you brought one. After this you will be returned to the pre-procedure area and a patient identification label is attached to the front of your patient gown.
You will meet your Anaesthetist who will introduce him/her self to you and undertakes a pre-anaesthetic consult with you to ensure he/she is familiar with your health status and history.
Your Endoscopist will then introduces her/him self to you and if he/she has not seen you before he/she will undertake a consultation at this time, to ensure he/she is familiar with your health status and history. You will be given a full explanation of the exactly what will be done prior to commencement of your procedure.
If you are a non-english speaking patient, an interpreter can be arranged – please notify us before admission if this required.
What happens after the procedure?
After your Procedure you will spend a period of no less than one (1) hour in the Recovery Area and Lounge. When you are fully awake refreshment will be offered to you.
Prior to discharge you will be seen by your endoscopist, who will discuss findings with you.
- You will be given written and verbal Discharge Instructions by the Nursing Staff, who will also ensure that you understand these instructions. The Nursing Staff shall contact whomever is taking you home and direct you to the waiting room to await their arrival.
